What is Myofascial Cupping?

Myofascial Cupping is similar to Myofascial Release Therapy in that it targets the fascia and connective tissue, but the methodology is quite different. In Myofascial Cupping the fascia is lifted and separated by means of a vacuum created inside a sterile cup applied to the skin over the area the therapist is targeting, rather than by direct manipulation of the fascia by the therapist’s hands. The cups can be left in one position or ‘glided’ over the skin, depending on the severity, type and location of the problem the therapist is treating.

Unlike the form of cupping that you may associate with traditional Chinese medicine, Myofascial Cupping does not leave red marks or bruising on the skin of the majority of patients. Additionally, it does not aim to treat illnesses or disorders of the internal organs, but focuses solely on the musculoskeletal system using similar principles to the various forms of massage therapy.
